Imperialism on Trial Project
This project was actually the first major project this second semester. To kick off the project we spent weeks reading and taking notes on each chapter, on a famous book called Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. The book followed the story of a strong yet aggressive man named Okonkwo and his struggle with the new British colonists and his anger. In the background the book shows the usual African household and culture, it also shows how the British colonists affected Africans. But once the book was through and we had now gained two perspectives on the African Slave Trade, Ally finally presented the last 5-12 perspectives. Learning about the Berlin conference was the final piece to understanding the process of the African slave trade in the final step to being ready for our exhibition. Setting up, practicing, and finding a date was easy once the experience shown through and in the in the Mock Trial of the Animas High School Sophomore Class was amazing and was done very professionally.
My role in this trial was the role of the court officer, the bailiff. The bailiffs role is to keep the court come but can also range to seizing things from the property. I was actually really happy to have received the position of the bailiff, since it was a relatively easy job but also the connection between the job of the Baylor for my last name My role in this trial was the role of the court officer, the bailiff. During the preparation I mostly worked with Jimmy the judge on the script we can follow. Once the trail came me, Jimmy, and Ally's script helped me and the rest of the class greatly and in the end of the trail flowed well because of it.
This project like others with similar in nature and your card writing and critical thinking skills. So from the beginning of my Reading and critical thinking skills we're going to be increased, I just did not know other schools like notetaking we're going to be affected as well. During the reading portion we had to capture the important parts of the chapter we were taking notes on, showing me that detail is important but sometimes efficiency is more important. But for a final skill I learned the skill of going along with something even if a piece of the puzzle is missing.
This project gave many opportunities to take important things away from or to learn from. One such example is in chapter 7 when Okonkwo kills his own adopted son Ikemefuna, this scene shows that maybe striving to be the best and to show strength is not always beneficiary. The book itself showed many types of lessons to learn from, but it was also talking to others in discussion questions or grouping up with others like in the berlin conference that gave a lot opportunities to learn. For example when learning of the berlin conference and having a basic view, it was only once ally explained the things going on behind the scenes that showed we should also always check both sides of the story. In the end this project gave many different opportunities that I took and was able to learn a lot from just one project.
