Dia de los Muertos Project
Before the Spanish Colonization it was celebrated at the beginning of summer, then becoming on the date of November first and second. The tradition is a mix of mexican and catholicism making it even more of a widely spread celebration.
Now it's mostly celebrated in mexico, but many celebrate the wondrous holiday in the U.S.A. But it is still indigenous to mexico, mainly to the central and southern regions. Its celebrated in a happy and joyous way even for it revolving around those who have died close or you felt connected to. So most of the time there is a bunch of bright colors that dominate the usual dark and boring colors around us. Making sugar skulls and bread and other assortments to bring and put around the grave is a great way to feed and cheer up everyone around so the the day is never spent mourning but celebrating their death.
Me and my partner Luke Fulks choose to celebrate and remember Bob Marley. Now I honestly had no idea who I was going to celebrate since no one in my family died, so I choose to go for someone who I respected. But then there was the issue of finding someone dead and someone i respect, so my girlfriend told me who she was going to choose out of three. I decided to use her idea of Bob Marley and it turned out to be a great idea. Finally when the altar was needed to be thought of and made, I gave different things from Bob's religion and things most people like. We ended up with a marijuana cover and Bob Marleys picture as well as incense, bread, flowers, salt, and a marijuana necklace.
Ultimately this project was quite fun. I thoroughly enjoyed learning greeting since it would help for short conversations. So when we only needed a few words to fall in the blanks like “was named” the writing prince was easily done fast and efficient. Through the whole thing it was ok and easy to learn, what I noticed is even with a significant other sitting next to me I still finished work fast. Once I finished I was so proud of the amount of work I put in, getting 20/20 was the best thing ever seeing as I put so much work in.
